Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, who receives it, how long we keep it, and your choices.

Summary

We collect what we need to run your studies and your account. We do not sell personal information, we do not use advertising trackers, and we use your tax information only to prepare your studies unless you sign a separate consent.

What we collect

Account details: name, email, company or firm name, role, and a password hash (never the password itself).

Study information you give us: company facts (state, entity type, revenue range), project costs, dates and property details, and the files you upload. We read uploaded files on our servers to extract the figures; we keep the extracted figures and the file name, size and fingerprint, not the original file.

Payments: our payment processor (Stripe) takes your card on its own page. We keep the receipt, the amount, and the card's last four digits.

Technical data: sign-in sessions, a hashed form of your internet address for rate limits and security logs, your browser type, and the time of actions such as downloads.

Messages you send to support.

Cookies

We use only the cookies the service needs: your sign-in session, a signed cookie that keeps an anonymous draft study yours until you sign up, and your display preferences (for example chat on or off). We have no analytics or advertising cookies. We do not respond to Do Not Track signals differently, because we do no cross-site tracking.

How we use it

To compute your estimate and studies, to have them reviewed by a credentialed CPA (and an engineer where needed), to take payment, to send the emails your account needs, to keep the service secure, and to answer you.

Tax return information (26 U.S.C. 7216): we use it only to prepare your studies and the return your CPA prepares. We do not use it for marketing, benchmarking across clients or training AI models, and we do not disclose it to anyone else, unless you first sign a separate consent that names the use or recipient. You can see and revoke your consents in your account.

Who receives it

Our reviewers (contracted CPAs and engineers, under confidentiality and 7216 obligations).

Service providers that process data for us under contract, all located in the United States: hosting and database, file storage, email delivery, error reporting, and payments. The current list is in our security summary.

The in-app assistant uses an AI provider for some answers. It reads only the sample data and our strategy library, never your studies. Please do not type client tax details into it.

Your CPA firm, when you connect it to your company or it set up the study for you.

Authorities, when the law requires it. We tell you unless the law forbids it.

Where it is processed

In the United States only. Any processing outside the United States would need your separate consent first (Treas. Reg. 301.7216-2).

How long we keep it

Unclaimed anonymous drafts: 31 days. Released studies, their documents and the review record: 7 years after release, so we can support an examination, then deleted. Security logs: 2 years. Email delivery copies: 30 days.

Your choices and rights

You can see and correct your account details, download your study documents, revoke a consent, unsubscribe from reminders, and ask us to delete your data (we keep only what the law requires). Write to support; we answer within one business day.

Residents of some states have more rights (access, deletion, correction, opt-out of sale or sharing). We honor them for every customer. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.

Security

We protect your information with the controls in our security summary and a written information security plan. If a breach affects your information we tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Children

The service is for businesses and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes and contact

We post changes here with a new effective date and tell account holders about material changes before they apply. Questions: support@buildertaxstrategies.com, or Builder Tax Strategies, mailing address on our receipts.
